People often use the term pressure washing as a blanket term for any kind of exterior home cleaning, and that makes me incredibly uneasy. Pressure washing should be exclusive to hard durable surfaces such as stone or concrete. If someone tells you they are going to pressure wash your home or roof make sure you ask some follow up questions. The majority of siding materials such as vinyl or cedar are far too delicate to be pressure washed and instead require a chemical soft wash, the same is true for roof washing. Asphalt roofs require special attention and very low pressure to remove growth and not damage the shingles. Soft washing is a method by which we can safely clean these delicate surfaces without causing damage. Soft washing uses very low pressure as well as a chemical cleaning agent such as sodium hypochlorite (pool chlorine) to kill any organic growth on the surface in a safe controlled manor. Soft washing can safely be used to kill moss, lichen and algae growth on roofs, extending their useful life and appearance. We also use soft washing to remove algae and other growth from vinyl and cedar siding to make them shine like new.
While I'm not sure what other companies are doing, at Gutter Boys we take the time to utilize the correct washing method as well as the appropriate chemical and concentration to ensure a safe and affective clean every single time.
